For about ten years now... or maybe twenty... my family has celebrated Christmas on the Saturday after Christmas*.

So I do most of my shopping when all the big sales are going on directly after Christmas... though I do also do some here and there throughout the year. Bad thing about that is I usually end up giving them the stuff beforehand cause I just can't help myself.

When all of her kids started getting married/having kids/etc... and it was rushing to make appearances here and there and yonder... ...Gran changed our Christmas celebration to the Saturday after so there'd not be conflicts. Sooo... woe, woe, woe!! be unto you should you not make Christmas.

And/or... that way they get to use it!! *laughs*

Does make gift-giving hard. I just got my Gran two really nice jackets that were on sale... I told her I'm just going to give her a card for Christmas that says, "Hey, remember those jackets?"

Thats an interesting idea about switching to the Saturday after Christmas haha. It might not seem the same to not do it on Christmas or Christmas Eve I'm afraid, but it sure would help if people had too many other places to be. Plus you get to take advantage of all the sales.

My Gran has four kids... all of which have in-laws in a hundred-mile radius. Plus *thinks* probably about half of the grandkids (six or so) also have people within the area. It's great that everyone's in close proximity... except when it means everyone expects to see you.

With one family having to come early and be gone before the other family even got there... and yet another one talking about splitting Christmas and Thanksgiving between the houses...

Gran finally said enough's enough. Now we do both holidays the Saturday after the holiday. Let's people have their own family Christmas, do stuff with "the other side" (whoever that is for them), and spend a much more relaxed all day thing once we get to Gran's.

And... erm... yeah, it reallllly helps with the re-gifting.

I might have to mention this thing to some of my relatives. My grandmother had 6 kids, and all the different branches of the family sometimes have trouble getting together, especially my sister who has a bunch of relatives on her husband's side who like to see her. I don't know if they'd do it though.

I didn't say before... but.. on Christmas Day proper... a lot of us still go to Gran's. It's sort of a hit-or-miss all day thing where if you get there, fine... if you call instead to say Merry Christmas, fine.

Takes the pressure off of the 'ohno Susy and Bobby won't be here at the same time' for Gran... ...and also helps a ton on the kidlets that want to stay and play with their cousins instead of being drug around from house to house to house.
